James Fisher Submarine Rescue Service Overview

Introduction

The James Fisher Submarine Rescue Service (JFSRS) is a complete, contractible Submarine Rescue capability, owned and operated by JFD.

Currently, JFSRS is providing submarine rescue coverage for the Royal Australian Navy from JFD's base in Henderson, WA.

From here LR5 and her associated equipment, including the Scorpio 45 ROV, is maintained on 12 hours readiness 365 days a year.

LR5

LR5 has been operated, maintained and upgraded by JFD for the past 25 years and had served with the UK's Royal Navy until November 2008. Having undergone re-certification with Lloyd's Register for a further 20 years service, LR5 is more capable today than she ever has been.

Scorpio 45

JFSRS' intervention capability is provided by Scorpio 45, a customised, air transportable ROV System.

Scorpio was used in the successful rescue of seven Russian Submariners from the AS-28 Priz in 2005. For further information please see here

Decompression Facilities

Supplementing LR5 is a proven Transfer Under Pressure system.

The equipment includes three one man transfer chambers and the universal deck reception chamber.

Handling Equipment

JFSRS' A-Frame is fully air transportable and can be installed on a wide variety of vessels of opportunity in less than 48 hours.
