Freeboard Extender (SOFE)
JFD's Freeboard Extender improves safety at sea in high sea-states by providing improved protection against the risk of the submarine flooding.
In addition to enabling the safe evacuation of submariners in high sea states, a modified IFE has been developed for use by special forces operating from submarines. The Special Operations Freeboard Extender (SOFE) providing increased safety for both the submarine and the operators during surface egress and ingress in high sea-states.
The SOFE has been designed specifically for use by maritime special-forces to operate from submarines, simplifying their surface egress or ingress. SOFE provides the submarine operators with a number of options during the deployment or recovery of special forces.
The SOFE, when employed, will enable safe and controlled ingress and egress by Special Forces in high sea states using a submarine’s casing hatch. Successful live trials have been completed using the SOFE. The SOFE is supplied in a matte black fabric.
