Moving Down Under

In November 2008, JFD formally acquired the rescue assets of the UK Submarine Rescue service that it had been operating to worldwide acclaim for the previous 25 years.

James Fisher Submarine Rescue Service (JFSRS)

The acquisition was made as the NATO submarine rescue system officially entered service and just days before JFD signed an agreement with the Royal Australian Navy for a standby service utilising the newly acquired equipment.

The James Fisher Submarine Rescue Service, which includes the LR5 submersible, Scorpio 45 Remotely Operated Vehicle and associated personnel are providing a proven rescue capability to the men and women of the Royal Australian Navy.

Mobilisation to Australia

The assets of the JFSRS were designed to be rapidly deployable in the event of an emergency, a feature which allowed easy transit of the UK based assets to a new Facility in Henderson, WA. Utilising the strategic airlift assets of the RAAF and commercial chartering services, the complete JFSRS spread was mobilised to JFD's Henderson base in a C17 Globemaster and Boeing 747 Cargo.

Activities

During its period in Australia, the JFSRS will be taking part in Submarine Rescue Exercises and rescue scenarios, whilst maintaining its submarine rescue commitments.
